1. Introduction

In Korean, months are expressed using Sino-Korean numbers + 월 (wol), which means “month.”
This makes it very easy to learn because once you know the numbers, you can form all twelve months.

 


 

2. Months of the Year

일월 (ilwol) = January
이월 (iwol) = February
삼월 (samwol) = March
사월 (sawol) = April
오월 (owol) = May
유월 (yuwol) = June (note the pronunciation)
칠월 (chirwol) = July
팔월 (parwol) = August
구월 (guwol) = September
시월 (siwol) = October (note the pronunciation)
십일월 (sibirwol) = November
십이월 (sibiwol) = December

 


 

3. Usage Examples

  • 오늘은 삼월이다. (oneureun samwolida) = Today is March.

  • 내 생일은 오월에 있다. (nae saengireun owore itda) = My birthday is in May.

  • 우리는 팔월에 여행한다. (urineun parwore yeohaenghanda) = We travel in August.

  • 시월은 날씨가 좋다. (siworeun nalssiga jota) = October has good weather.

  1. 나는 이월에 태어났다. (naneun iwore taeeonatda) = I was born in February.

  2. 유월에는 장마가 시작된다. (yuworeneun jangmaga sijakdoenda) = The rainy season begins in June.

  3. 십이월은 연말이다. (sibiworeun yeonmarida) = December is the end of the year.
