[GAMETOC] Final Fantasy XIV Announces 24-Player Hero Raid

Return of Large-Scale Field Content like ‘Eureka’ and Announcement of 24-Player Hero Raid

Square Enix has announced that a 24-player Hero Raid will be coming to Final Fantasy XIV.

During the ‘Japan Expo in Paris 2024’ held on July 13th and 14th, Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV, held a special talk session where he discussed the future development direction of Final Fantasy XIV.

Among various topics, the mention of the ‘24-player Hero Raid’ drew significant attention. Yoshida stated, “I can’t share the details yet, but we plan to start the 24-player Hero Raid with version 7.2.”

Yoshida acknowledged, “We know that repeating patterns are causing boredom for players, and we are aware that there is a desire for change.” He added, “There might be opinions that the old ways were better or that the changes are less fun, but we want to take on the challenge of change.”

In line with this intention, Yoshida announced plans to introduce the 24-player Hero Raid and large-scale exploration content starting from version 7.2. Popular large-scale field content like ‘Eureka’ and ‘Bozja’ is nearly finished in terms of development, and programming is expected to start soon.

Additionally, Yoshida emphasized, “As the amount of content significantly increases, we also plan to substantially increase the amount of rewards that players want.” The rewards will gradually increase starting from version 7.1, and by version 7.3, the rewards will be about 1.5 times more than the current ones.

There is high anticipation that this will greatly improve the issue of lack of motivation for content. Over the 10 years of service, Final Fantasy XIV has often been criticized for having too few rewards compared to the challenges. As a result, the number of users during the Endwalker expansion decreased with each patch.

One of the main reasons cited was the removal of large-scale field content like Eureka and Bozja, which were central to the odd-numbered patches. Recently released content such as the ‘Variant Dungeon’ has been criticized for having insufficient rewards compared to its difficulty.

Many players have become bored with limited content, so Yoshida’s announcement has significantly raised expectations among the community. There is a prevalent hope that players will be able to enjoy a variety of battle content in addition to the existing 8-player raids.

The new expansion pack, Golden Legacy, recorded the highest number of concurrent players since A Realm Reborn. The anticipation for the second act of the story attracted many players. With the introduction of new content and increased rewards, the game is expected to experience a second golden age.
