Overview

The Korean Language Institute is an educational institution affiliated with Yonsei University, established on April 1, 1959, to teach the Korean language and culture to students, missionaries, diplomats, foreign professors, business people, and media personnel interested in studying Korea and to enhance understanding of Korea.

The faculty of the Korean Language Institute consists of outstanding experts who have received systematic training in Korean language teaching methods. With thier deep knowledge of the Korean language and extensive teaching experience, they guide students with careful attention to individual learning needs and abilities, offering tailored instruction. Our faculty not only ensures that students effectively learn Korean through efficient classroom management but also enhances student engagement and interest by utilizing various teaching techniques. Additionally, through diverse cultural activities and experiential programs, they help students naturally adapt to Korean society and culture. The dedicated and professional guidance of our faculty not only improves students’ language proficiency but also lays the foundation for them to confidently adapt to life in Korea.

Currently, more than 160 excellent instructors teach approximately 2,300 students each semester, and as of the summer semester of 2024, a total of 159,862 students from 151 countries have studied at the Korean Language Institute.

Regular Course

  • The Regular Program is an educational curriculum designed for foreigners and overseas Koreans who are interested in the Korean language and culture and wish to learn Korean. This program is suitable for those planning to enter universities or graduate schools in Korea, seeking employment, or learning Korean for leisure activities.

  • Most students who wish to receive Korean language training at the Korean Language Institute apply for this program, with an average of 1,700 students from about 60 countries registering each semester.
  • The Regular Program is offered as a 10-week course per semester, totaling 200 hours per semester, and is operated across 4 semesters annually.
  • Classes are conducted in the morning and afternoon, and the curriculum is designed to match the levels of the Korean Language Proficiency Test (TOPIK). If starting from Level 1, it takes approximately 1 year and 6 months to complete all 6 levels up to Level 6.
