GameScience Announces Completion of Development… Final Stages Underway
GameScience has completed the development of “Black Myth: Wukong,” which is scheduled for release on August 20th. On August 6th, the company announced via its official social media channels, “We are pleased to announce that the entire development of Black Myth: Wukong has been completed and the game will be released as scheduled.”
Currently, the development team of Black Myth: Wukong is working hard on the final stages of game testing, experience, and distribution. A new trailer is being prepared to heighten anticipation before the release. This trailer is scheduled to be released at 10:00 AM Beijing time on August 8th.
The development team stated, “While we want to share all the exciting details of the game, Black Myth: Wukong is a single-player game with an original story and unique gameplay, so we will keep some aspects hidden. Therefore, we ask that until the official release, no text, images, videos, or unofficial leaks of the game’s content be spread.”
They added, “We sincerely wish for all the mysteries and surprises of Black Myth: Wukong to remain intact from the moment the journey begins to the end. We will always remember the expectations and trust of gamers over the past four years.”
Meanwhile, Black Myth: Wukong is a new action RPG based on the Journey to the West, first unveiled in August 2020. Journey to the West follows the story of the monk Tang Sanzang, who travels to defeat evil forces with Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing. Black Myth: Wukong deals with the time after that journey has ended.
In the game’s universe, Sun Wukong helps Tang Sanzang and earns the title of Buddha Victorious in Strife. However, all of this is a lie. The real Sun Wukong was sealed for 500 years by those envious of his power, and an imposter stole his title. After being unsealed after 500 years, Sun Wukong embarks on a journey to find the forces behind the betrayal, encountering many characters and enemies along the way.
This game is expected to elevate the stature of Chinese games globally, much like how Nexon’s “Dave the Diver,” Neowiz’s “Lies of P,” and Shift Up’s “Stellar Blade” have boosted the reputation of Korean games. The initial 13-minute gameplay video exceeded 54 million views.
Gamers have shared various opinions, such as “It looks promising from the footage,” “If successful, it could change perceptions of Chinese games,” “I’ll wait for reviews since there’s not much info released,” “I’m worried there’s no demo version,” “I hope it turns out to be a fun game,” “It’s disappointing there’s no physical package,” and “I’m glad it will be released smoothly.”
Currently, Black Myth: Wukong is available for pre-order on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The Xbox version will be released later than other platforms due to optimization issues. A physical package version will not be provided due to GameScience’s circumstances, and the server will open at 10:00 AM on August 20, 2024.
