T1 Esports Academy Signs MOU with Yonsei Esports Lab

T1 Esports Academy (hereinafter T1A), an esports specialized educational institution, and Yonsei Esports Lab announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to analyze and evaluate esports player capabilities and develop training programs.

T1A is an academy operated by T1, a prestigious club known in Korea’s League of Legends LCK, providing esports education solutions from top expert instructors in various fields.

Yonsei Esports Lab (hereinafter YESLAB) is the world’s first esports performance engineering lab established in 2021 within Yonsei University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering. It has presented 21 papers and won 7 best paper awards at CHI, the most prestigious international conference in the field of human-computer interaction, conducting world-class research related to esports skill analysis.

Through the MOU, the two organizations agreed to exchange and cooperate on the following: △Exchange between professional coaches at T1 Esports Academy and research lab members △Exchange and cooperation for conducting esports skill measurements △Exchange and cooperation for analyzing and interpreting esports skill measurement results △Exchange and cooperation for developing evaluation and training programs based on esports skill analysis △Exchange and cooperation for developing business models utilizing esports skill analysis technology △Cooperation and participation in various esports-related events △Mutual cooperation for situations related to mutual exchange and development.

T1 strives to support the growth and development of esports players by scientifically measuring their core competencies through specialized esports technology. By scientifically evaluating players’ core competencies and reflecting them in individual training processes, they aim to help players develop more effectively. Through this, players can maximize their potential and provide opportunities to compete strategically and efficiently through training.

Through the cooperation between T1A and YESLAB, they plan to scientifically analyze and evaluate players’ capabilities across various disciplines. They plan to approach systematically, dividing into common items and individual items for each discipline.

Common items include General Mechanical Skill Measurement (GMS) and Wrist Usage Habit Measurement during Mouse Control (W-Index). This will help identify the basic skill levels and wrist usage habits of all players and provide customized solutions.

Individual items include League of Legends Mechanical Measurement (LLL) and Aiming and Shooting Skill Measurement (FPS). This will allow precise analysis of specific skills required in each discipline and develop training programs specialized for each discipline.

Through these analyses and evaluations, they will predict the possibility of achieving target results, prevent wrist injury possibilities, diagnose in-game operation and judgment weaknesses, and provide solutions. They also plan to analyze mouse operation habits and provide optimized training solutions to help players perform at their best.

Ahn Woong-gi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SK Telecom CS T1, said, “This agreement will be an important opportunity for the research and education of the esports field to develop complementarily. By collaborating with YESLAB, we will lead the future esports industry, strengthen expertise, and promote sustainable development. We also expect that our cooperation with YESLAB will have a positive impact on the esports field.”

Professor Lee Byung-joo of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Yonsei University said, “Through cooperation with T1A, we will prove that the technologies developed by YESLAB can be useful in the actual esports industry. Furthermore, we want to show the world that a virtuous cycle of academia and industry can be established in the esports field based on the data obtained through the cooperation process.”

Through the cooperation between T1A and YESLAB, the technology enhancement and data management in the esports field will be systematically carried out. Starting with the development of esports education and industry, it is expected that a more advanced esports environment will be created both domestically and internationally.

T1A PTP (Professional Class) students can receive result sheets to check their capabilities through the ‘Mechanical Measurement’ conducted monthly.
