Tongmyong University will host the “Do-ing Culture Day” event on November 13, aimed at its 1,300 international students. This global festival, being held for the first time this year, aims to foster interaction and help students adapt to life in Korea through traditional cultural performances, hands-on experiences, and a friendship sports event. It is also part of the university’s Innovation Support Project.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and consists of three main sections: ▲ Cultural Performances and Experiences ▲ Friendship Sports Event ▲ Career Exploration, with around 1,000 international students expected to participate. In the morning, cultural performances and competitions from various countries will allow students to learn about each nation’s traditions and history. There will be Korean cultural experience booths featuring activities such as Yutnori, Tuho, Jegichagi, Hanbok-wearing, and food tastings including Korean, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine like tteokbokki. In the afternoon, a larger-scale country team soccer tournament will be held, along with a career exploration event. Booths from organizations like KOWORK, UNIport, AINATION, and Busan Metropolitan City Foundation will also offer on-site consultations. Additionally, students from the Taekwondo, Military Science, and Korean Physical Education departments will present congratulatory performances.
Joon-ki Han, Director of Tongmyong University’s International Student Support Office, stated, “We aim to provide international students with a sense of belonging to our community and help them settle smoothly into Korean society, offering a variety of support programs from admission to employment.”
In addition to assisting with visas and daily life, Tongmyong University’s International Student Support Office has been organizing various events to enhance students’ understanding of Korean politics and culture and ensure they have an enjoyable experience studying in Korea. These include traditional cultural experiences, field trips, private and legal education, and international sports competitions. Currently, the university hosts around 1,300 international students, with approximately 900 undergraduates and 400 graduate students from 20 countries.
